Crewe captain Neil Cox faces a spell on the sidelines as he requires a shoulder operation.
The veteran defender has been struggling with the problem for some time and the club have decided to send him under the knife to cure the injury.
Crewe's first-team coach Steve Holland confirmed the club had no choice but to send Cox for surgery.
"Neil has visited a specialist and has been informed that he will need an operation to resolve the problem," Holland told the club's
official website.
"He has been struggling with a problem with his shoulder for a while but has continued to play.
"The problem is deteriorating all the time. It is not something we can wait for until the end of the season."
