Veteran striker Wayne Allison has left Chesterfield after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
Allison had been combining the roles of player and reserve-team coach at Saltergate, but has opted to move on.
He has made just nine substitute appearances in League Two this season and is understood to have been unhappy at being overlooked for the assistant manager's job.
The 39-year-old was not due to be offered a new contract for next term and Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson has confirmed the forward's departure.
Marvellous career
"Wayne Allison has had a marvellous football career spanning 20 years, but we are not able to offer him a role next season and fully understand the reasons why he would like to move on," Richardson told the club's official website.
"We wish him all the best for the future."
Allison joined Chesterfield from Sheffield United in 2004 and also has the likes of Bristol City, Huddersfield Town and Tranmere Rovers among his former clubs.
