Gannon praises youngsters' impact

Jim Gannon has released nine players following Stockport County's promotion to League One. The Hatters clinched promotion with a play-off final victory over Rochdale a week ago and Gannon has now started his plans for next season. Among the players to have been released by Gannon is striker Adam Proudlock, who scored 10 goals in 38 appearances last term. Midfielders Adam Griffin and David Poole have also been moved on, along with goalkeeper Chris Adamson and youngsters Dan Ellis, Chris Coward, Craig Flowers and Amari Morgan-Smith. Rob Clare, who has spent two spells at Edgeley Park, has also been released, with the defender having not played for over a year due to injury. Gannon told BBC Radio Manchester: "Our young players have all grown into becoming first-teamers. "I just hope the club's ambition can match where some of these young lads like Tommy Rowe and Liam Dickinson are going to go because some of them are destined for great things." Though nine players have not been offered new contracts, Gannon is hoping to keep Michael Rose, Jamie Smith and Matty McNeill at the club.
