Keeper set to stay with Notts County

Veteran keeper Kevin Pilkington is set to sign a new contract with Notts County this week. The 35-year-old is determined to be the first-choice stopper at Meadow Lane next term, having been forced to sit out the final three months of the 2007/08 season through injury. The former Manchester United and Mansfield keeper was sidelined with a broken ankle and was forced to watch loanee Russell Hoult put in a number of commanding performances during the run-in. With his current Magpies deal due to expire in the summer Pilkington is keen to have his future resolved as soon as possible, giving him the maximum amount of time to prepare for the start of a new campaign in August.

Eager

"I spoke to the gaffer (Ian McParland) on Monday and I am going into the club this week. I am definitely going to sign," he told the Nottingham Evening Post. "I am really looking forward to pre-season and getting myself fit, now I have got my contract sorted. "I lost my place through injury but I will still be eager to prove myself again but it's down to the gaffer who he wants to bring in. I can only concentrate on what I do."
