Spaniards name new boss

Gonzalo Arconada has been unveiled as the new coach of Primera Liga side Almeria. The 46-year-old has signed a two-year deal at Estadio del Mediterraneo and replaces the highly-regarded Unai Emery. Emery left the club to take the reins at rivals Valencia after enjoying two successful years at the helm in Andalucia. He led Almeria to a runners-up spot in the second division during his first season in charge, before securing an eighth-place finish in his first year in the top-flight. Whether Arconada can build on the foundations which have been laid remains to be seen, but he has a useful pedigree of his own. He has just led Numancia to promotion into the Primera Liga as champions, but felt that he was ready for a new challenge.

Solari signs

Meanwhile, Almeria have completed the signing of Argentinean striker Esteban Solari from Pumas UNAM. The brother of former Internazionale playmaker, Santiago, Solari has signed a four-year deal with the Spanish club. He attracted attention following an impressive season in the Mexican league last term, where he notched 25 goals. He returns to Europe just a year after a disappointing spell with Cypriot outfit Apoel and becomes Almeria's third summer signing, following Michel and compatriot Pablo Piatti to the club.
