Goalkeeper signs two-year Meadow Lane deal

Veteran goalkeeper Russell Hoult has signed a two-year contract with Notts County. Hoult enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Magpies from Stoke City towards the end of last season, keeping seven clean sheets in 14 games as the club staved off the threat of relegation. The 35-year-old former West Brom shot-stopper was eager to make the move permanent and will now battle with Kevin Pilkington for the No.1 jersey. He becomes manager Ian McParland's fifth summer signing following the swoops for Michael Johnson, Adam Nowland, Jamie Forrester and Matt Hamshaw.

Competition

McParland told the club's official website: "It's no secret that we've had a burning desire to bring Russell back to the club after such a successful loan spell with us. "He is a terrific goalkeeper as well as being a great character, and with Kevin Pilkington agreeing a new deal, it means we will have some real competition for places between the posts." Hoult added: "At the end of last season the fans really made my mind up for me. I didn't want to go anywhere else and I am really happy to sign for Notts County. "I spoke to the manager as soon as the season finished and from the outset he made his interest very clear. "I don't want to travel all over the country at my age for a game of football, and this move suits me perfectly. I know I'll enjoy my football here."
