Defender training with SPL new boys

Mark McGregor is hoping to earn a contract at Hamilton Academical after linking up with the SPL new boys on trial. The experienced defender is available on a free transfer after leaving Port Vale at the end of last season and is on the look-out for a new club. He recently told skysports.com that he has a 'have boots will travel' philosophy in his search for a new team and has travelled up to Scotland to train with Hamilton. McGregor featured in a friendly with Queen's Park on Saturday and is now waiting to see if he will be offered a deal by Hamilton boss Billy Reid.

Great opportunity

"I've been in contact with Sky Sports over the last couple of weeks and got fixed up with Rob Shield," McGregor told Sky Sports News. "He gave me a ring and got a week's training up at Hamilton, who are obviously a new SPL club, which I thought was a great opportunity to get myself up here training and have a game. "I will just prepare as I have done in the last 10 or 12 years as a professional footballer and hope Billy sees enough to take a chance on me. "I will just take every day as it comes."
