Accrington left-back happy with rapid progress

Accrington Stanley left-back Chris King has signed a new contract with the League Two club. King penned a six-month deal in July after joining from TNS of the Welsh Premier League. 27-year-old King has started all six games this season and has impressed Stanley boss John Coleman enough to extend his contract until the end of the season. The Wirral-born defender had seven years at TNS, playing in the club's European qualifiers against Liverpool and Manchester City. King told skysports.com: "Accrington is my first English league club, I believe in my abilities but I had to prove myself on the pitch. It's gone really well so far and I'm made up the gaffer has seen fit to extend my contract so soon. "Even though I've reached my first objective of a contract for the season, I now want to help Stanley to continue with the decent start we've had and put ourselves in with a chance of moving out of this division." King could not quite make it a double celebration though, as his side were knocked out by Tranmere Rovers in the first round of Johnstone's Paint Trophy in midweek. It was King's first return to Prenton Park after being released from the club as a youngster, the same club that his father Alan enjoyed legend-status with in the late 70s. King junior added: "When we were drawn again Tranmere at Prenton Park I was chuffed. It's where I started football and it's where my dad played for a number of years. "I still live in the area and have a lot of mates who came down to watch the game with my dad and the rest of the family. I was also made up as it meant I only had a five minute drive to the game!"
