Grayson opts against handing a deal to trialist

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has opted against handing a contract to trialist defender Darren Powell. The 33-year-old former Southampton and Derby defender featured in two reserve matches for the club, but Grayson feels he is not fit enough to make an immediate impact. Although Grayson is constantly looking to strengthen his side, the ex-Blackpool boss has confirmed Powell will not be staying on.

No deal

"Darren won't be staying on," Grayson told the club's official website. "We looked closely at Darren. "He trained well and had the experience side of it, but we need someone who could step straight up if needed and Darren may be a couple of weeks away. "I thank him for coming up and wish him well, and hope he will get fixed up somewhere."
