Bundesliga leaders Hamburg have been dealt a massive blow with the news that top scorer Paolo Guerrero could be out for up to six months. The striker is believed to have torn his cruciate knee ligaments on Wednesday when he was forced to leave the field after just 15 minutes of Peru's 3-1 defeat to Venezuela. He is now due back in Germany on Friday when he will be examined by the club's medical team and faces up to six months on the sidelines if the initial diagnosis is confirmed. It is a major blow for the league leaders as Guerrero has been on fire in the Bundesliga so far this term, netting four times in four games.

Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia said: "The first tests from Peru indicate that Paolo has torn his cruciate ligaments. "That obviously hits us hard and it is obviously bitter for Paolo." The news comes after the club revealed they were keen to tie up a new contract for the player. Meanwhile, midfielder Collin Benjamin is due to undergo surgery on Wednesday after injuring his knee while on international duty for Namibia in Swaziland last weekend.
