VVV suffer Gentenaar blow

Image: Gentenaar: Out for the season

VVV Venlo goalkeeper Dennis Gentenaar is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Veteran keeper unlikely to play again this season

VVV Venlo goalkeeper Dennis Gentenaar is expected to miss the rest of the season after damaging his cruciate ligaments. Gentenaar suffered the injury in last week's 4-0 defeat by his former club Ajax, but VVV have had to wait for the swelling to subside before being able to assess the problem. Scans have now shown the full extent of the damage, with the Dutch club predicting Gentenaar will be sidelined for six to nine months. However, VVV have suggested that the keeper, who turns 34 next week, is unlikely to return to first-team action this season. Kevin Begois is likely to get the nod to replace Gentenaar, who only signed a two-year deal to join VVV from Ajax in the summer.
