Royals ace hoping to be kicking a ball in no time

Reading's injured defender Chris Armstrong is hoping to be back in training within a fortnight. The Royals' Player of the Season last year has been restricted to just one appearance this time around after undergoing knee surgery. The 27-year-old has found watching from the sidelines a frustrating period and feels the team's performances have not been justified by their results. However, Armstrong, who is confident Reading can turn their season around, believes he is recovering nicely and sees no reason why he cannot be back on the pitch before the end of the month.

Injury progressing

"It's coming along nicely and hopefully in the next few weeks I can get back into training and then kick on from there," he told the club's official website. "It's been seven or eight weeks since the operation, obviously it's been frustrating but hopefully I can put it behind me. I just needed a tidy-up so hopefully now I'm good to go. "I'll just step it up, get back to running, then get into training, then a reserve game and so on. I've had a history with my knee so I need to get the strength right. "It's frustrating to be on the sidelines, no matter if you win or lose, so on top of that we've not had the best of starts. "I've seen every home game and the lads have done well but we haven't had the results. We need that bit of luck, we're getting in good areas and I'm sure it will turn around."
