Long-term servant of Hamburg earns prolonged stay
Bundesliga side Hamburg have agreed a new deal with Namibia international skipper Collin Benjamin.
The midfielder, whose contract was due to expire next June, will now remain with the club until June 2011.
The 31-year-old, who is currently out with a knee ligament injury, then hopes to ply his trade in America.
He told
Bild: "This was agreed within the blink of an eye - these contract negotiations are about to be the shortest in the history of Hamburg and I am clearly delighted, this is great news.
Final transfer
"I am going to be 33 years of age when this new contract is up and I could imagine making a final transfer, switching over to MLS.
"I would like to retire from the game playing in that competition. I have always been on holiday in the United States in these last four years and I am a fan of that country. I would like to get to know that country then."
The contract is just reward for a player who has spent his entire professional career at the club after joining from amateur outfit Raspensport Elmshorn.
