Spanish full-back takes positives from cup defeat
Manchester City defender Javier Garrido says the Carling Cup clash against Manchester United shows how far City have progressed.
City went down 3-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday giving the Red Devils a 4-3 aggregate victory, thanks to a late goal from Wayne Rooney.
But Garrido, who has made seven appearances for the Blues this season, says the way his side pushed the Premier League champions all the way shows a great improvement.
"United have a big squad and are one of the top sides in the league," he said.
"They played a strong team, they did not use youngsters, which to me shows how good we are becoming. It means we are doing well.
"City have invested a lot of money in trying to win trophies and we are still involved in the FA Cup.
"We are also trying to get into the top four. It is not easy but we believe we can do it. We have to keep looking forward."
City striker Carlos Tevez scored three goals in the two games against his former club and Garrido heaped praise on the Argentinean striker.
"Carlos has now played a few years in England. He works very hard in every game and scored again for us," he added.
"He is putting in really good performances and the team is getting the benefit of that.
"He tries to do his best. He was unhappy like the rest of us after the United game. But that is football and we have to keep going."
Garrido will be hoping to feature on Sunday as City host bottom-of-the-table Portsmouth at Eastlands.
