Ferguson happy to keep Henderson at Deepdale

Preston North End have taken up the option to extend the contract of goalkeeper Wayne Henderson for another season. Henderson's deal was due to expire in the summer, but he will now stay at Deepdale until 2011, with the Lilywhites having the option for a further 12 months. The Republic of Ireland international has not made a first-team appearance for Preston this season due to the form of Andy Lonergan, but is fully fit after over a year out with a back injury. Lilywhites boss Darren Ferguson is happy to be hanging on to Henderson to provide the competition for regular No.1 Lonergan. "Wayne was coming to the end of his contract, so we had to look at it," Ferguson told the club's official website. "He's done well in training; obviously he's not played as much football as he would have liked, but hopefully we have seen the end of his injuries with his back. "He's trained really well and is pushing Andy all the way. So, we've got him signed up to give him another year so we're all pleased."
