Coyle won't sell to buy

Owen Coyle has insisted that he does not need to sell players this summer to strengthen his squad.

Bolton boss to give McCann chance

Owen Coyle has insisted that he does not need to sell any players this summer in order to strengthen his squad. The Bolton boss has seen much speculation over the future of defender Gary Cahill this season, while Gavin McCann is the only player going out of contract at the end of the campaign. Former boss Gary Megson had difficulty trying to offload players he deemed surplus to requirements such as defender Danny Shittu and McCann, but Coyle maintained that he had no such worries to fund additions to his team. "I think it is fair to say we will look to add a few players to the existing squad because we want to take the club forward," he said. "That takes a number of things to come to fruition: one, they want to join; two, the finances are in place; and three, they need to be available. "We have targets in mind and we have to do our best to really entice them to the club. "But I don't need to sell anyone."

Opportunity

Coyle did not spend any money during the January transfer window after he made the switch from Burnley to the Reebok Stadium, bringing in youngsters Vladimir Weiss and Jack Wilshere from Manchester City and Arsenal respectively and American midfielder Stuart Holden all on loan. But the Scot did maintain that he may sell some players should the right offer come in and if they wanted to leave the club. "There might be one or two that feel they have not been given an opportunity to play or feel they will not get a lot of match time, but they are still under contract," Coyle added. "Therefore it would take someone to come in and be interested in them for them to move on. "We managed in January to bring three lads in without spending a penny - I'm not saying that will be the case in the summer." With regards to McCann, Coyle maintained that he was willing to give the player a chance at Bolton, but the veteran midfielder needed to work on his fitness before he came back into the reckoning. "I've said to Gavin when he is fit I'll give him an opportunity to win a contract, which we've not been able to do now because he has been injured," he said. "But it is only fair he has an opportunity."
