Hinton, Guinan and McCready not in Sampson's plans

Northampton boss Ian Sampson has explained his decision to transfer list Craig Hinton, Steve Guinan and Chris McCready. Sampson is prepared to let the trio move on as he does not see any of them getting into the first-team next season. All three players signed on free transfers last summer with club captain Hinton, 33, and Guinan, 35, becoming first-team regulars in the side that finished 11th in League Two. McCready, 28, made 13 league starts before ending the season on loan at Tranmere. The experienced trio all have a year left on their contracts and the Cobblers boss will welcome them as part of his squad for the next campaign if nobody signs them.

He told the club's official website: "We treat everyone the same, they are all good professionals and if they don't go then they will be part of the squad. "They are all decent lads but I don't see any of them getting in the first-team here next season so that's why I've made them available." Regarding captain Hinton, he added: "If Craig is still here then he will remain as club captain. "He's been fantastic in terms of his character in the dressing room and he represents the club very well."
