Striker's current deal at Boro is set to expire next month

New Zealand striker Chris Killen is hoping his performances at the World Cup will help earn him a new contract. The 28-year-old attacker's current deal with Championship club Middlesbrough is due to expire at the end of the month. While Killen is open to remaining at the Riverside Stadium, he is aware that there is no better shop window to demonstrate his talents than in South Africa. He said: "As of next month I'm a free agent. It's a big time for me and an opportunity for me to alert clubs. I'm good to go next month and see where it takes me. "There's possible ongoing talks but I haven't spoken to the manager (Gordon Strachan) in a month. I'm not worried about that now. I just want to help New Zealand to get through this group." He continued: "A goal against Italy would do me no harm. It would be something to be proud of to score against the world champions. "We can't wait for that game. The press have written us off from day one but I think we've shown we deserve more respect. "We're not going to get carried away. We've got the world champions in the next game and we are a minnow in football status. We'll put our heart into it and see how we go." New Zealand claimed a historic point against Slovakia in their opening game of Group F and are next in action versus world champions Italy.
