Dutch skipper disappointed after final game

Holland captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst was proud of his team-mates after they lost out to Spain in the World Cup final. Van Bronckhorst saw his playing career end in defeat after Andres Iniesta's extra-time strike earned Spain a hard-fought 1-0 win in Johannesburg. The 35-year-old, who earned his 106th and final cap for Holland against Spain, was disappointed to see his World Cup dream end after a glittering career for club and country. "We were so close to being world champions, but it didn't work out that way. It is very disappointing," said Van Bronckhorst. "I am very proud of the team and everything we have achieved. We came far, we gave everything today. "If we had scored first it could have been a different ending. "You don't get many chances against Spain and it was disappointing not to have scored from at least one of the two chances we had."
