Midfielder heads off in search of regular football

Matty Collins has left Swansea City by mutual consent in an effort to find regular first-team football. The midfielder still had a year left to run on his current deal at the Liberty Stadium, but has opted to forfeit a further 12 months in South Wales. He leaves the Swans after three years, during which time he has consistently struggled to hold down a starting berth. Collins told the club's official website: "It was my decision in the end. I'm 24 and need to play regular football. "I could have sat in the stands for the rest of the season and played the odd game here and there. But I want to be playing 30 or 40 games a season.

Risk

"It's a risk leaving the club without a contract elsewhere, although I have a few things in the pipeline, but it's a risk I feel I need to take to play regular football again. "I've enjoyed my time at Swansea and would like to thank everyone at the club and the fans for the support they've given me. I've been pleased to be part of it." The former Wales U21 international joined Swansea in 2007 from Premier League outfit Fulham. Despite having made that move in order to get games, he departs the club having made just four league appearances and two in the League Cup.
