Dutch giants snap up striker until end of season

Striker Jhon van Beukering has signed with Feyenoord until the end of the campaign, with the option to extend for another season. The 27-year-old, who was without a club having been released in the summer, joins the Eredivisie outfit on a free transfer after a successful trial period. Van Beukering, who has also enjoyed spells at Vitesse, De Graafschap and NEC, admits the Feyenoord move has come as something of a surprise.

Strange

"It can be strange in football. A month ago I never imagined ending up at Feyenoord," said Van Beukering. "But if (coach) Mario Been hands you a chance, you grab it with both hands. I did. "During the training, I worked hard and did well. I see this contract as a reward for it. "I am extremely happy to be here in De Kuip and sign a contract." The striker hopes to make his debut for Feyenoord during Sunday's clash at Willem II, who currently sit rock-bottom of the standings. "It would be nice if that happens," he added. "I'm itching to get back to playing games. "If the coach needs me, I'm ready. I haven't spoken with the coach yet, but he can use me if he needs me. Now he has an extra option in the attack."
Shortage
Feyenoord found themselves short of strikers last month due to injuries suffered by Jon Dahl Tomasson and Sekou Cisse, with only 18-year-old Luc Castaignos available for selection. Young Kazakhstan striker Sergey Khiznichenko, who has already won 10 caps for his country, is currently on trial at the club. However, the Dutch club have decided against offering a deal to Swedish hitman Andreas Haddad, who has been on trial twice in Rotterdam.
