Former Arsenal shot-stopper could return to Bundesliga

Former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is still a target of Schalke, according to general manager Horst Heldt. The 41-year-old returned to Arsenal on a short-term contract in the second half of last season after being surprisingly tempted out of retirement by Arsene Wenger. Lehmann hinted that he could continue his career in the next campaign and he has been linked with old club Schalke, who he helped win the Uefa Cup in 1997. The Bundesliga club, who have sold Manuel Neuer to Bayern Munich, are looking for a back-up option to new first-choice Ralf Fahrmann.

Considering

Heldt told Deutsche Presseagentur: "Of course, Jens Lehmann is one of the goalkeepers we are considering for the job. "There are other goalkeepers on our list as well." Heldt added in BILD: "I am well willing to discuss a lot of things with the supporters all the time. I have no trouble with that. "However, there should not be votes whether or not to sign a player. Personnel decision will be made by just the authorities of our club."
