Full-back ends time at Liverpool with switch to Portugal
Argentine full-back Emiliano Insua has joined Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon on a five-year contract from Liverpool.
Insua joined the Reds in 2007 from Boca Juniors and made over 60 appearances for the club in all competitions, with his only goal coming against Arsenal in the Carling Cup in 2009.
However, he spent last season on loan in Turkey with Galatasaray and was linked with a move to Italian outfit Roma earlier in the summer.
Liverpool's recent capture of Jose Enrique from Newcastle United, in addition to the emergence of Jack Robinson, left Insua surplus to requirements at Anfield.
He has now been allowed to leave Liverpool permanently and the 22-year-old is looking forward to a new challenge with Sporting.
"I am delighted to start training and playing here," he told Sporting's
official website.
"Sporting is one of the big Portuguese clubs and is recognised for having top players.
"The club is always looking to win titles. I will give everything for Sporting."
