Moreira aiming for regular football after leaving Swans

Swansea City have cancelled the contract of Portugal keeper Jose Moreira by mutual consent. Moreira, who has represented his country at every level from the Under-17 side to the senior team, joined the Swans on a two-year contract from Portuguese giants Benfica last summer. But the 30-year-old failed to break into Brendan Rodgers' first team with impressive Dutch stopper Michel Vorm standing in his way. He made one appearance for the South Wales club in a Carling Cup defeat by Shrewsbury last August.

Future

"It was very difficult to play in the first team because Michael has done so well this season. He deserves to be the No.1," said Moreira. "I saw every day in training how good he is and hopefully I helped provide good competition for him. "But this is the best decision for both the club and myself. I need to play football and hopefully, after a holiday with my family, I will sort out my future with a new club. "I may have left Swansea but I only have very good memories of the club and the people."
