The experienced forward has scored 24 goals since arriving in Somerset two years ago and he will be part of the Yeovil squad that is looking to make an immediate return to the second tier next season.
Gary Johnson told the club's official website: "I am really pleased that James has accepted a contract extension. He is a model professional and a hugely important member of our squad."
Johnson has confirmed that defenders Byron Webster and Luke Ayling along with goalkeeper Marek Stech are set to head to pastures new having turned down contracts to stay with the Glovers.
"We've heard from all of them and near-enough all of them have said they won't be returning," he told the Western Gazette. "They've all turned down the contracts offered, but that's a matter of course anyway.
"We've tried to speak to either them or their agents and they won't be coming back to Yeovil so we've got to not have them in our thoughts and look to the next ones that we can give an opportunity to look to."
But Johnson will be speaking to striker James Hayter, goalkeeper Chris Dunn and full-back Seth Nana Twumasi and the trio look likely to stay in Somerset for the forthcoming League One campaign.
