Queens Park Rangers are hoping to complete a deal to sign Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer for a fee of around £8m and could soon lose Julio Cesar, Sky sources understand.

Netherlands international Fer came off the bench for Norwich in their 3-0 win over Watford on Saturday, but he has talked about a return to the Premier League ever since the Canaries were relegated last season.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp revealed last month that Fer was one of his top targets for the rest of the summer transfer window, and it appears he could have a medical as early as Monday.

Fer joined Norwich at the start of the 2013-14 season and scored three goals in 29 outings, going on to secure a place in Louis van Gaal's squad for the World Cup - he scored in their group clash with Chile after coming on as a sub.

Speaking at the end of July, Redknapp told Sky Sports News: "He's a player we like but I don't know where that one is at the moment. It's been ongoing for a while but there are other people as well that we are looking at.

"I think we need a couple of midfield players and we have got other targets we are looking at.

"We need to strengthen in a few positions really to be strong enough to really have a go at it this year."

It could be a case of one in, one out at Loftus Road though, with keeper Cesar reportedly closing on a move to Portuguese side Benfica.

Benfica have just sold keeper Jan Oblak to Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, and are on the lookout for a replacement - there is no confirmation whether a permanent or loan deal is in the works.
