Hamilton striker Dougie Imrie believes the newly promoted side can continue to shock their rivals and win the Scottish Premiership.

The Accies sit at the top of the table after their 1-0 win over Celtic a fortnight ago, their first victory over the Hoops in Glasgow for 75 years.

Imrie has warned that Celtic will recover their form but believes his team can mount a title challenge.

The 31-year-old said: "We are playing really well right now but you also don't want to get too carried away. We are a small club but we've come up and started the season strongly.

"I've said all season that we will just take one game at a time and see where it takes us. There is no reason why we can't make a push for the title but we can't get carried away. We know Celtic will come strong.”

Hamilton, who are a point clear of Dundee United, are at home to Aberdeen on Friday.

The club's crop of youngsters, including Grant Gillespie, Ali Crawford, Eamonn Brophy and Darren Lyon, have impressed with their performances this season.

And Imrie believes they can follow in the footsteps of former Hamilton players James McCarthy and James McArthur  and play in the Barclays Premier League.

The former Clyde, Inverness and St Mirren forward said: "You see them every week playing in the SPFL right now and they are running riot.

"They are good enough to be compared to the McArthurs and McCarthys that this club has already produced.

"They are good enough to go onto bigger things but we are glad no one is picking up on them because we want to keep them as long as we can."
