Manchester United are planning to spend big during 2015 but, according to Sky Sports News HQ reporter James Cooper, the club's fans may have to wait until the summer to see the majority of the cash being spent.

While United are ready to splash the cash during the current transfer window, the players they are chasing may not be allowed to leave until after the end of the season.

These players are currently at teams heavily involved in major European club competitions and are unlikely to become available until July, thus limiting the number of top class stars they can purchase this month.

Cooper said: "I think United would love to flex their muscles during the transfer window and they do have a list of players they are keen to pursue.

What I'm really saying from Manchester United is there may be a degree of patience this January in terms of spending but I think the summer is going to be spectacular again

"But I think the problematic thing is we are talking about elite players around Europe, and perhaps the world, who are involved in competitions that Manchester United aren't - namely the Europa League and the Champions League.

"And I think symptomatic of that is one player they are looking at is Marquinhos, a young centre back who plays for PSG in France.

"He is 20 years old and a Brazil international and is certainly somebody who is on United's radar. But his involvement in the Champions League is the key problem.

"They are not expecting to do too much spending and those players might have to wait until the summer."

However, according to Cooper, United do have plenty to spend this year thanks to huge sponsorship deals that have been secured by the Premier League club.

He also said that reports printed in Friday’s national newspapers may not be completely accurate.

Cooper added: "There are almost limitless resources at the moment when you bear in mind Adidas are coming on board in June - a huge kit sponsorship deal - worth more than £700m.

"You have probably read in the papers this morning about the fees Manchester United might be spending in the summer.

"But I think it's also perhaps slightly erroneous. I'm led to believe there is no sort of spending figure that Manchester United consider and there is no one saying 'look, here's £150m to spend and you can't go above that'.

"What I'm really saying from Manchester United is there may be a degree of patience this January in terms of spending but I think the summer is going to be spectacular again. There is an awful lot of money to spend and there is a list of players.

"If they can get those players in January they will come but, if not, United will wait until the summer."
