Rotherham boss Steve Evans is confident Ben Pringle will stay at the club.

It looked as if the 25-year-old's stay with the Millers would be coming to an end after the club accepted an offer from Millwall earlier this month.

But Pringle, who is out of contract in the summer, turned down a move to the capital and has intimated he would like to sign fresh terms at the New York Stadium.

He has yet to receive a suitable offer from the club and boss Evans will try and ensure the fans' favourite gets a better deal.

"I think it is more likely he will stay," he said. "We like Ben Pringle. I had Ben in for a little chat.

"My job as a manager with this one is probably to be a little bit of an intermediary and perhaps do my best to get our chairman to re-look at the numbers with (chief executive) Paul Douglas that this football club can afford - because that's what it's always about.

"I know from speaking to Ben that he's certainly of that mind. I would love to see him stay a Miller."

Pringle has played an integral part in the Millers' rise to the Championship and was named in the PFA League One team of the year last season as his side won promotion.

He recently tweeted in response to a fan asking him to sign a new contract: "When there is a contract offered to me I will be happy to do that."
