Brede Hangeland is close to agreeing a new contract with Crystal Palace, according to Sky sources.

The centre-half’s current deal at Selhurst Park runs out on June 30 and he was named on a list of players to be released from the club.

But sources say Eagles boss Alan Pardew wants to keep the Norweigan defender and striker Shola Ameobi, whose contract is due to run out in three weeks.

Hangeland joined the south London club last August on a free transfer, having left Fulham after the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League.

And the defender said he will look back on his time with Palace with “good memories” if he does move on.

"Since the new gaffer came in, it's been really enjoyable. Overall, I have liked my time at Palace – it's a great club with fantastic fans and a good set of lads to play with,” he told the Croydon Advertiser.

"My plan was to never leave Fulham last year but you never know how things work out in football and I look back on the season with Palace with good memories.

"I would have liked to have played more – and I think I can still play in the Premier League.”

Former Newcastle United forward Ameobi signed for Palace in January after leaving Turkish club Gaziantep.
