Lyon manager Hubert Fournier says Rafael da Silva is "an important reinforcement" to the Ligue 1 side following his transfer from Manchester United.
The 25-year-old's eight-year spell at Old Trafford come to an end on Monday when he completed his move to the Stade de Gerland on a four-year deal, for a fee reportedly in the region of £2.5m.
And Fournier believes Rafael will bolster his squad with quality ahead of the season which lies ahead.
"We were following Rafael for a long time," Fournier told the club's official website.
"He's a very talented player and was much loved by the Manchester United fans.
"He's an important reinforcement, especially given the busy schedule we will have from September onwards."
Rafael is naturally a right-back but Fournier was pleased to acquire a player who can be versatile, adding: "He can play on the left of defence and even sometimes higher up the pitch.
"His profile corresponds with Olympique Lyonnais' attacking philosophy."
