Middlesbrough midfielder Stewart Downing answers the tough questions on FL72 Podcast, including the best player he's played with and his cleverest team-mate.

Downing, who rejoined his boyhood club from West Ham in the summer, is also confident of a return to the top flight under Aitor Karanka after tasting relegation in his previous spell at the Riverside in 2009.

What do your team-mates call you?

Stewey. Nothing flash. Just Stewey.

What's the best thing about playing for Middlesbrough?

It's my hometown club. Playing in front of people I know... it's one of the reasons I came back. It's big for me, and to get promotion is the main thing.

Who is not the brightest?

Ben Gibson. He thinks he's clever, but he's not. He's not streetwise, he's a bit dopey and takes a bit of stick.

Do you have any pre-match superstitions?

Not a ritual, but I sit in the changing room before the game, read the programme and chat to the kit man. Ben Gibson has this thing where he has a drink at the side of the pitch and does a snake run and a sprint. The lads are on at him about that.

Who is the best player you've played with?

Can I have two? I'll go Mark Viduka and Luis Suarez.

Who do you wish you could play with?

It has to be Lionel Messi. I played against Cristiano Ronaldo as a young lad coming through at United but I love Messi.

Best moment in football so far?

Hopefully at the end of this season, still to come! But obviously your debut is a big thing, those UEFA Cup nights at Boro, and your England debut is a big thing. But promotion with Boro at the end of this season would be the highlight.

Worst moment in football so far?

Getting relegated with Boro.

Where will Boro finish this season?

I know I'm going to be biased, but top. We will definitely get promoted.
