Mikael Lustig has signed a contract extension at Celtic.

The Sweden right-back has just had a fifth anniversary as a Celtic player and his previous deal was due to expire this summer.

Brendan Rodgers made it clear in the autumn he wanted Lustig to stay, and the 30-year-old is now tied to Parkhead until "at least 2019", according to a club statement.

Lustig has won four league titles, two League Cups and the 2013 Scottish Cup during his four full seasons with the Hoops and is on course to add to that haul this season with Celtic 19 points clear at the top.

"I've been here for a long time and I really enjoy my life here and playing for Celtic," he told the club's official website. "I'm really happy. I'm still hungry for more and I love being here.

"We've started really well in the first six months under the new manager and staff so that's why it was an easy thing for me to do. Celtic is growing and getting better every season now and I want to be a part of it.

"We have a chance to take the treble now and we've obviously not done that yet, but everyone wants to just continue to develop as a team, continue to play against good sides and learn."
