Fanendo Adi's late penalty in a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union saw the Nigerian become the all-time top goalscorer for the Portland Timbers on Saturday night.

Adi scored from the spot in the 88th minute for his 46th Timbers goal, moving him clear of John Bain, who set the previous mark between 1978 and 1982.

Roy Miller and Diego Valeri also scored as the Western Conference leaders secured their fourth win of the season, while Philadelphia are yet to taste victory this term.

Portland sit three points clear of FC Dallas, who enjoyed a 2-0 win over Minnesota United thanks to goals from Javier Morales and Michael Barios.

Columbus Crew saw their lead in the East cut as they lost 1-0 to the Chicago Fire while second-placed Atlanta United drew 2-2 with Toronto FC.

Atlanta played the last 15 minutes with 10 men after Yamil Asad saw red, but two goals from Hector Villalba secured them a point.

Real Salt Lake played through a snow storm to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 and end a 13-match winless run.
