Cardiff Met University missed out on the chance to play in next season's Europa League after losing 1-0 to Bangor City on Saturday.

The student side were one win away from reaching the qualifying rounds of the European tournament, but that honour instead fell to Bangor after their narrow play-off victory.

Cardiff Met FC had qualified for the play-offs after finishing sixth in the Welsh Premier League, but they ultimately fell at the final hurdle having dispatched Carmarthen Town to set up the final with Bangor.

Dean Rittenberg's first-half strike proved to be enough for Bangor, whose player-manager is former Leicester and Blackpool striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher.

However, the university side thought they had levelled in the second half, but the referee ruled out the goal after spotting a handball.

Cardiff Met FC were only playing in Welsh Division Three five years ago, but reached the top tier after promotion last season.
