Jadon Sancho became the first player born since the year 2000 to receive an England call-up - but how many players born this millennium have featured in the Premier League?
Sancho left Manchester City to join Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017 and the move has paid off, with his impressive cameos for the Bundesliga side earning him recognition from England boss Gareth Southgate.
However, there have been eight 21st century boys who have broken through to appear in England's top flight…
The first
Angel Gomes, Manchester United
Date of birth: 31/08/2000
The first player born after the turn of the millennium to feature in the Premier League was Manchester United's Angel Gomes. Then 16 years and 263 days old, the player came on for Wayne Rooney late on against Crystal Palace in the final match of the 2016/17 season.
United's youngest player since Duncan Edwards, Gomes has yet to add to that debut Premier League appearance.
The youngest player with a PL appearance
Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chelsea
Date of birth: 07/11/2000
The youngest player with a Premier League appearance to their name is Chelsea's exciting winger Callum Hudson-Odoi. He was just 17 years and 84 days old when he made his debut against Bournemouth in January and followed that up with another run out against Tottenham in April.
A starter in this season's Community Shield against Manchester City, Hudson-Odoi has been pushing for more first-team chances.
The most PL appearances
Phil Foden, Manchester City & Ryan Sessegnon
Date of birth: 28/05/2000 & 18/05/2000
Highly-rated teenage duo Phil Foden and Ryan Sessegnon have made eight Premier League appearances each - the most by players born this century.
While Foden has been limited to brief substitute appearances this season, he became the youngest ever player to receive a Premier League winner's medal at the end of 2017/18, after playing five times during City's march to the title.
Sessegnon, meanwhile, has become a first-team regular at Fulham after playing a key role in their promotion from the Championship last season and is now impressing after making the step up to the Premier League.
