Sunderland have agreed a deal with Wigan for striker Will Grigg, Sky Sports News understands.

Following ongoing discussions, Sunderland have made a breakthrough at the sixth time of asking for the Northern Ireland forward.

Sunderland are hoping to push through a deal before the window closes, following a pursuit lasting several weeks.

Last week, Wigan boss Paul Cook confirmed the club had already rejected four bids from the promotion-chasing Sky Bet League One club.

Sunderland's fifth bid of £1.25m plus add-ons was also knocked back by Wigan, who stood firm on their valuation.
