The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) have confirmed they are attempting to recover the body found in the wreckage of the plane carrying Cardiff striker Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson.

The Piper Malibu aircraft was found at the bottom of the English Channel on Sunday morning and the AAIB has confirmed one occupant of the plane is visible in the underwater wreckage.

However, the AAIB says strong tidal conditions are hampering the operation to remove the body.

A statement read: "We are attempting to recover the body. If we are successful, we will consider the feasibility of recovering the aircraft wreckage.

"Strong tidal conditions mean we can only use the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for limited periods each day and this will mean that progress is slow.

Sala's father has urged investigators to recover the body as soon as possible

"Regardless of the results, we will not be making a further statement until the families have been informed."

Sala's father has urged investigators to recover the body as quickly as possible.

"We hope that they can recover him as soon as possible in order to find out what happened," he said. "At least to have some idea about what happened."

More than £300,000 was raised through a GoFundMe page in order to launch the privately-funded search for Sala's aircraft.

Kylian Mbappe, Adrien Rabiot and Dimitri Payet were among the donors and Horacia Sala thanked the public for their generosity on Tuesday.

"Thanks to all the players that have helped with money because it was very expensive to pay for the search," added Horacia Sala.

"I would like to thank all the people that have supported, everyone."
