Ipswich Town forward Freddie Sears is facing up to a year out after suffering cruciate ligament damage in their 3-0 defeat to Norwich on Sunday.
The striker was substituted in the first half after damaging his knee in a tackle with Tom Trybull and a scan has shown damage to his ACL.
In a statement on the club's official website, Sears said: "I'm obviously devastated but I want to thank the fans for their support yesterday."
The club's physio Matt Byard added: "The scan has confirmed a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee.
"He will see a specialist later this week who will determine the time frame but it's likely that surgery will take place in the next two weeks.
"We will know more from the specialist but with this type of injury, you are looking at nine to 12 months recovery."
