Brighton have agreed a new long-term contract with head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

The 33-year-old's current terms were due to expire at the end of next season, but Sky Sports News understands the contract, which is yet to be signed, is a long-term deal.

Brighton's stance is that they don't publicly comment on contractual matters before an official announcement. The deal is yet to be officially signed but is expected to happen soon.

Brighton's hierarchy have been impressed with Hurzeler, who has guided the club to eighth in the Premier League and are challenging for a place in Europe with three games to go.

Hurzeler had been rumoured to be linked away from the Amex but talking to Sky Sports last month, the German coach shut down speculation suggesting a return to the Bundesliga.

Speaking last month, Fabian Hurzeler said he was happy at Brighton and dismissed links to Bayer Leverkusen

"It's always an honour to be linked to these kinds of rumours and speculation but I'm really happy here," Hurzeler said.

"I'm very thankful for the trust and support the club has given me. I'm really enjoying my time here and therefore, we focus on a strong end to the season.

"I'm totally committed; there are no thoughts. In football, there is not always this loyalty from a club. I really feel trusted here and welcomed. I can express myself and really be successful with this team."

The Seagulls had six wins in eight games before a 3-1 defeat by Newcastle last weekend, as Hurzeler's side enjoyed a hot period of form.

Hurzeler joined Brighton in June 2024 and led the club to an eighth-place finish in his first season at the club. The former St Pauli boss, who is also the youngest manager in the league, is currently in the hunt for the club's second-ever season in Europe.
