Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has ‌been discharged from hospital following his collapse in training last week ‌due to a meningeal irritation, board member for sports Max Eberl said on Wednesday.

Kompany was taken to hospital last week after collapsing at Bayern's training ground during ‌a second-team training session.

He missed out on media duties ahead of Bayern's Champions League match against Arsenal due to a viral infection, but did make it to the dugout for the 2-2 draw.

"Given the circumstances, he's doing well," Eberl told broadcaster ARD ahead of the German Cup game against Magdeburg, who Bayern beat 6-1. "He ‌was discharged from the hospital today [Wednesday]. That is the biggest and best news for all of ‌us.

"It's a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday. He will now rest and take medication and I am certain that he will very soon be back on the touchline, operating at 100 per cent."

No date has been set for Kompany's return, with Eberl saying the Belgian would resume his duties only after receiving medical clearance, something that was reiterated by his assistant, Aaron Danks.

Speaking after the win against Magdeburg, he said: "I still don't feel like there is any timeline on it [when Kompany is back]. It's obviously a really positive step in his road to recovery.

"He gets to settle back at home now, be closer to his family, be closer to his home comforts but it's still really important that he takes his rest and he recovers. So there is no timescale on it. Nothing that I've been told and I've been informed.

"Our doctors will continue to work closely with Vince and at the right moment, he will be back with us once he is fit and healthy to do that and we look forward to that day.

"But in the meantime, we just continue to push forward as a group with the players and staff and keep working hard.

"I haven't spoken to him for a couple of days now so I still think not much has changed in terms of our working relationship at the moment.

"His health is our number one priority and for us he is still in recovery mode so we want him to get back to full health, full fitness and then join us.

"Over the coming days, weeks, I don't know, things will start to move forward and we can start to engage in more of these conversations.

"But there has been no timescale on that at the moment. It is just purely about his health, his recovery and him taking the time that he needs."

Danks has taken charge of the team and was on the bench for their 3-1 win at Freiburg at the weekend. Bundesliga leaders Bayern face title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
