Defender's departure to pave way for summer signings

Motherwell manager Craig Brown has admitted any summer signings depend on the sale of prize asset Mark Reynolds. The 23-year-old defender has one year left on his contract at Fir Park and has previously been linked with Rangers, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. And although Brown confirmed there have been no bids yet, he insists the Scottish Premier League club are happy to help Reynolds secure the best possible move. "Mark wants to progress his career and he has been very good to Motherwell," said Brown. "He was an ever-present but for the last game of last season at Ibrox.

Benefits

"He deserves the best move he can get and the club is supportive of his move because it would benefit the club financially but also because it would benefit Mark, and he has been such a good servant here. "But we have not had one official enquiry to the club for him. His agent is working on it. "We would lose a terrific player but it would give us funds to strengthen the team. Without Mark going, we can't sign anyone. That's it in a nutshell." Reynolds made his Well debut in May 2006 and has already clocked up 168 first-team appearances.
