Veteran keen to make an impact in second spell at Charlton
Charlton Athletic's returning star Jason Euell insists that his period as a free agent this summer has made him more determined to succeed this season.
The experienced attacker was looking for a new club after being released by Blackpool at the end of last season and earned a one-year deal with the Addicks after impressing whilst on trial.
The 34-year-old rejoins Charlton for a second spell, having spent five years at the club following a £4.75million transfer from Wimbledon in 2001.
Euell made his second debut for the Addicks as a late substitute in Saturday's win at Notts County and he revealed that the harsh reality of being without a club has helped him develop as a player.
Harder
"I think that it gets harder every year for free agents to find a new club because the list of players available on free transfers seems to keep growing," Euell told
skysports.com.
"This year the list of players released solely from the Premier League was massive, so when you add all the others from the leagues below and even abroad it shows how tough it can be.
"What makes it harder is that clubs are only giving out one-year options at the moment and the longer deals are simply allowed to run down.
"I finished last season well and showed that I can score goals at the highest level, so I was always confident of finding a new club sooner rather than later.
"Being over 30 never helps because clubs are always on the look-out for the next young talent, but I'm a firm believer that there needs to be a blend still.
"I know what I can offer both on and off the pitch to Charlton and I'm just looking forward to being a part of something special here this season."
