Boss confident midfielder will commit to Toffees
Everton manager David Moyes has revealed that Marouane Fellaini is 'very close' to agreeing a new contract at the club.
The Belgium international has less than two years to run on his current deal and negotiations between the club and his representatives have been going on for several months.
The 23-year-old, who cost a club record £15million when he moved from Standard Liege in 2008, has been in fine form this season after recovering from ankle surgery over the summer.
After selling key midfielder Mikel Arteta to Arsenal on transfer deadline day Moyes is desperate not to lose another one of his key assets.
If a deal cannot be reached soon the cash-strapped Toffees may have to consider selling the midfielder before his value significantly drops when he enters the final year of his contract.
Very close
However, Moyes seems confident that scenario will not happen and that Fellaini will commit his future to the club sooner rather than later.
"I think it is very close to getting done," the Scot told the club's
official website.
"The chairman and the chief exec have been working on it for a while and I've been waiting on the good news and hopefully it's not too far away
"He has been a really good player for us over the last few seasons and if we can keep him it will be really good."
