Cologne striker concentrating on on-pitch matters, not on contract

Cologne striker Lukas Podolski remains calm over his future at the German club and says that he has yet to hold any discussions with the officials over a new contract. The 26-year-old's current deal with the Bundesliga side expires in June 2013 and there have been suggestions that he would be convinced to depart next summer. However, the Germany international, who rejoined Cologne from Bayern Munich in 2009, is not in a hurry to make a decision on whether to leave the RheinEnergieStadion. "I think that hasty statements regarding my future are useless," Podolski told Cologne-based Express. "I have always kept my future undecided and said that I would need to see how the club develops in the meantime. "I did not have a single chat with the authorities about my future just yet and I believe that all this contract talk is just to unsettle everyone." Cologne finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season and are currently 11th in the table with 16 points from 11 matches, and Podolski is pleased with his side's performance so far. "I am pleased to see that we have grabbed 16 points thus far this season," he enthused. "I am also pleased that I have played an important role in those matches. "Still football is a daily business and everyone needs to perform week in and week out."
