French forward will not be taking in second spell with Gunners

Arsene Wenger claims Thierry Henry will soon be heading back to America and will not be agreeing a short-term deal with Arsenal. The French forward, who is contracted to the New York Red Bulls, has been training with the Gunners during the MLS off-season and was said to have impressed the club's coaching staff with his sharpness and fitness levels. A sensational return to English football was touted, with Arsenal said to be piecing together a move for their all-time leading goalscorer. Henry left the club for Barcelona in 2007 but is still regarded as something of a legend in the red half of North London. Arsenal supporters would welcome his return to their ranks, but Wenger says there is no chance of an agreement being reached.

Spirit

He has also distanced himself from reports linking him with another Arsenal old boy, Nicolas Anelka - with the Chelsea striker set to join Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua. Wenger said: "As for Nicolas Anelka and Thierry Henry, I would say 'No'. "I am told Anelka has signed for a club in Shanghai and Henry goes to a training camp with New York Red Bulls on 15th January. "We will lose players like Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations, but we have players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andrey Arshavin and Ju Young Park to come in. "The spirit and the focus of the squad is there."
