Lilywhites supremo urges caretaker duo to apply
Preston North End chairman Peter Ridsdale has been pleased by the volume and the quality of candidates applying for their managerial position.
The Lilywhites are on the lookout for a new man at the helm after Phil Brown was sacked prior the club's upset over high-flying Milton Keynes Dons.
Ridsdale has confirmed that no less than 22 names have thrown their hats in the ring, insisting those in the running are not computer-game players with lofty ambitions.
Caretaker duo Graham Alexander and David Unsworth remain in caretaker charge and the former Leeds and Cardiff supremo will not be rushing an appointment at Deepdale.
Ridsdale has asked the duo to submit their own applications if they would like to be considered for the job permanently and he expects them to remain in charge for their Boxing Day clash with Carlisle.
Applicants
"We had 22 people who have applied. There were actually more, but I'm talking about 22 names in football as oppose to young lads playing Championship Manager on the computer," he told the
Lancashire Evening Post.
"Half a dozen are top quality candidates, and it will need me to spend some time with them to see if they are the right fit for Preston North End.
"I will be seeing some people and have seen people already because they have asked to meet up and talk.
"I am not going to comment specifically on individuals, but I'm sure if I wrote down a list and other people did, they would be quite similar.
"We're in no hurry because we want to get the right decision. The two lads in charge at the moment will be asked if they want to throw their hats into the ring. If they do want to be considered they will be put on the list, and Saturday's result will certainly help them.
"I think it's highly likely that Graham and David will in charge for Boxing Day. You never know exactly what is going to happen, but I'd be extremely surprised if they weren't."
