Arsenal defender expected to be out for a further month

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has been ruled out for a further month after suffering a setback to his groin injury. The 22 year old had surgery on a hernia in October but will not return until at least the end of January. The youngster has made just nine appearances this season and scored in the Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury in September. Manager Arsene Wenger said: "Kieran Gibbs has had surgery on his left groin and he will be out for a month." The Gunners are already missing a significant number of players due to injuries and may have to delve into the transfer market in January. Defenders Johan Djourou, Andre Santos and Carl Jenkinson are already missing, while Bacary Sagna has just returned to training after suffering a broken leg. The absentees have prompted Wenger to play centre-backs Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny at full-back.
