Prospective Reading owner has big plans for the future

Prospective Reading owner Anton Zingarevich believes the Royals can become a top-ten club in England in five years. It was announced in January that John Madejski planned to sell 51 per cent of the club to Thames Sport Investments, led by Russian-born Zingarevich. Since then, the Royals have sealed a return to the top flight under Brian McDermott, going up as champions despite a 2-0 last-day loss at play-off hopefuls Birmingham. Zingarevich was on the open top bus as the Reading team took the plaudits on Sunday and he is looking forward to the future.

Great people

He told Sky Sports News: "You have the great people here and I think there is big potential in this club. "I spent a couple of years here in Reading which were great, something that I will always remember. "When the opportunity came up, of course there was a linkage, which was also important." Asked about his ambition for the club, he replied: "I mean, we'll see. The first, as I've always said, I think the infrastructure is something that we can work on. "But in five years, I think we can make a top-ten club in England."
