Sky Sports understands that Red Bull Salzburg coach Ricardo Moniz is one name that will be considered by Wigan, should coach Roberto Martinez depart.
Martinez is currently locked in talks with Liverpool and has been offered the chance to take charge at Anfield.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan wants the situation resolving as soon as possible, and it is little surprise they are looking at potential replacements for Martinez.
Former boss Steve Bruce has been linked, and
Sky Sports understands that highly-rated Moniz will be in the frame.
Moniz previously coached at Tottenham during Martin Jol's reign at White Hart Lane and he spent two years with Hamburg before taking on his first management role with Salzburg last year.
In his first season in charge, Moniz guided Salzburg to the Austrian title and the 47-year-old is regarded highly.
